North West Passage, of good fishing grounds, or of the leaves of the sassafras, for which there was a great demand in the 17th century. The first permanent settler in the vicinity was David Thompson who arrived in 1623 with his wife and with ten other men. He built a house at "Pannaway", now "Odiorne's Point, NH. DJ and outer edge of book damp stained.
